MOSTAR, December 20 (FENA) - The US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson and Head of the European Union Delegation to BiH Johann Sattler visited Mostar on Sunday and called on future city councilors to take concrete action after the elections.
After visiting the center of the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections "Under the Magnifying Glass", the two officials pointed out in a statement to reporters the importance of holding of the Mostar local elections and called on the citizens of Mostar to perform their civic duty.
"The Mostar elections have probably attracted the most attention of all the elections in Europe this year. After 12 years, citizens finally have the opportunity to elect their local leaders," said Ambassador Nelson.
He pointed out that the turnout was good so far, but that he hoped it would be even better, and once again called on voters to come out and vote.
"The higher the turnout, the clearer the results will be, and thus the clearer the message for elected leaders as to what they need to tackle and what they need to focus their attention on in order to start addressing issues of interest to citizens," said the US ambassador.
The Head of the European Union Delegation to BiH, Johann Sattler, also expressed satisfaction with the election process and stressed the importance of the fact that the citizens of Mostar have the opportunity to vote after 12 years.
"My second message is that tomorrow is just as important as today. We have to show the citizens of this city that we are turning the page and the new chapter is about to start," said Sattler.
He appealed to future councilors to take concrete action after the elections, to form the City Council and elect the mayor as soon as possible, in order to start resolving the burning issues in the city.
Nelson and Sattler thanked all the citizens of Mostar who voted today, as well as all those who helped organize the local elections in Mostar.
