Zvizdić's initiative to give vaccination priority to vulnerable groups

SARAJEVO, December 30 (FENA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Denis Zvizdić sent a parliamentary initiative to instruct the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs to start direct negotiations without delay on the procurement of vaccines for the most vulnerable categories of the population.

As he stated on Twitter, Zvizdić wants to use this initiative to enable risk groups to get the vaccine as soon as possible.

“I support the COVAX instrument, but BiH is only one of the 172 member countries of the program and additional engagement is needed for the rapid procurement of the vaccine,” he stated.

Zvizdić further states that the COVAX mechanism did not bring the expected results, and that according to unofficial information, due to procedural omissions, BiH could be among the last to receive these vaccines.

“Indeed, the authorities in BiH were told that all countries within COVAX will receive their doses at the same time, but now the question is whether this will be the case and how much the first tranche will be,” says Zvizdić.

He also points out that there is no reason not to enter into a direct agreement, given that Pfizer vaccines were procured in the same way by countries in the region, such as Serbia, Albania and Northern Macedonia.

“At the same time, it is necessary to activate the package of the European Union of 70 million euros for early access to coronavirus vaccines, which was approved for the countries of the Western Balkans, as soon as possible,” he said.
