FBiH HoR on failure to establish anti-corruption department in the Prosecution

FENA Vernera Jakupović

SARAJEVO, February 2 (FENA) - The House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the online continuation of the 18th regular session, rejected the report on the execution of the budget of the FBiH Prosecutor's Office for 2019.

The major part of the discussion on this item of the agenda was regarding the information presented by the secretary in that Prosecutor's Office, Lidija Petric, that the budget for 2019, had the money planned for the activities of a special department of the Prosecutor's Office for the Fight against Corruption, whose establishment was required under the existing law but it has not been formed yet.

When asked by the MPs why this did not happen and what happened to the planned funds, Petric answered that some other institutions should be asked about it because the FBiH Prosecutor's Office is not competent to resolve the matter on its own, and that based on the budget revision from May 2020, there were no more funds in the Prosecutor Office's budget for these purposes.

According to Lidija Petric, 'the probable reason is that there was no willingness to form such a department', so the technical issue of missing accommodation capacities was not the primary obstacle for the failure to establish the anti-corruption department.
