Zvizdić: The state of BiH is the only one in charge for procuring vaccines

SARAJEVO, February 3 (FENA) - The initiative to amend the Law on Medicines was adopted earlier, but to date, February 3, no BiH resident has been vaccinated, for which there is no rational explanation or justification, said today the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić (SDA).

He underlined that the Council of Ministers, in co-operation with the entity governments and the Brčko District health departments, has sufficient powers to enter into negotiations for the direct procurement of vaccines, adding that there is no indication of overlapping competencies.

He explained that everyone knows that the COVAX mechanism is not enough to procure vaccines in one part of the Western Balkans, because they started vaccinating residents, and assessed that the issue of vaccine procurement had to be above any political and particular interests.

“The state of BiH is the only subject of international law that had the opportunity to conduct talks with vaccine manufacturers through the Council of Ministers and receive the most favorable offers related to those vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency,” he emphasized.

He pointed out that there is very little possibility of any deviations when it comes to the procurement of vaccines because the European Medicines Agency has approved three types of vaccines Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca, which means that there can be no fraud in product quality.

“The vaccines in question were approved by the most elite drug agency in the world and showed a high level of efficiency of use from 70 to 94 percent,” said Zvizdić.

According to Zvizdić, the bigger problem is that the countries of the European Union are introducing laws regarding the so-called Covid passport, and those who have not been vaccinated will not be able to enter the European Union, which automatically means that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be able to travel.

“If there is no even vaccination on the territory of the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially medical workers, chronically ill people and the elderly, we will end up in a situation where people from one canton will not be able to travel to another one because they are not vaccinated,” Zvizdić thinks.
