FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 12 (FENA) - A new FABLAB laboratory, called the "Al-Jazari Lab”, inspired by scientist Ismail Al-Jazari, known as the "Father of Robotics” opened today at the Research and Development Center (RDC) at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS).

It is the most equipped laboratory for digital fabrication, the establishment and equipping of which was financed by the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA). Within the project, a four-day training was organized for students and employees of the university, as well as high school teachers from the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to BiH Haldun Koc, Rector of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) Ahmet Yildirim, TIKA Coordinator for BiH, as well as professors and students of this university attended the opening ceremony.

Ambassador Koc emphasized his satisfaction with the achieved cooperation, and emphasized the importance of investing in education as the foundation of a successful future of every society.

“Such investments for the future are important for the relations between our two countries, but also for the development and progress of the entire region. The lab was opened during coronavirus pandemic, when countries close their borders and when we actually realize how important technology is. This laboratory will certainly be useful for BiH and because of that we are especially proud. We always say that economic development is the basis for political stability,” said Koc.

He pointed out the importance of the participation of high school teachers from BiH, who will pass on the acquired knowledge to their students.

“They have successfully passed the training in this laboratory and acquired new skills about high technologies, and they will pass on their knowledge to their students. There are high school teachers from various cities in BiH. Certainly, the knowledge and skills about high technologies that they have acquired here represent an important investment for the future of BiH, but also an investment in young people,” Koc added.

University Rector Yildirim said that the goal now is to use this laboratory to organize courses and classes with high schools, universities and other programs so that they can also organize courses in their schools.
