Turkish Minister Pakdemirli to meet with Minister Košarac

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 14 (FENA) - Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey Bekir Pakdemirli accepted the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina Staša Košarac for a meeting on strengthening bilateral cooperation and improving foreign trade between the two countries.

The Turkish side informed Minister Košarac that Minister Pakdemirli would be in Sarajevo on February 25 on that occasion.

At the initiative of Minister Košarac, the Ministers of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of RS and FBiH Boris Pašalić and Šemsudin Dedić will attend the upcoming meeting.

“We must provide domestic farmers with the most favorable conditions for placing products on the Turkish market. That was the main reason for me to insist on holding a meeting with the Minister of Turkey, but I also ask that the line ministers from RS and FBiH participate in the talks because the agricultural sector is in the primary competence of the entity,” said Minister Košarac.

He assessed that the Republic of Turkey is an important foreign trade partner with which BiH wants to intensify negotiations on a larger volume of foreign trade in favor of export-oriented farmers from BiH.

“Therefore, I will insist on the continuation of the export of red meat from BiH to Turkey and on the increase of export quotas from 3,000 to 5,000 tons this year. Also, I will open negotiations with the Turkish side on the possibility of exporting meat products, as well as essential oil to the market of this country,” said Košarac.

“The opening of new markets and the continuation of exports gives domestic farmers the opportunity to minimize market surpluses and repair the negative effects of the pandemic. This is one of the measures we are actively working on to protect domestic farmers,” said Košarac, and reminded that in the past period, negotiations on exports with the European Union, Russia, China, Malaysia and Singapore have been intensified.

Košarac did not rule out the possibility of taking other measures in order to stabilize market conditions and develop the agricultural sector, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH announced.
