SARAJEVO, February 16 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović spoke today with Matthew Palmer, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and State Department Special Envoy for the Balkans.
In a telephone conversation, Izetbegović and Palmer jointly assessed that additional efforts are needed to accelerate the European and NATO path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The President of the SDA pointed out that the arrival of the new American administration is expected to increase the presence of the United States and their support for the reform and integration processes.
The topic of conversation was also the end of the election process in Mostar, and the interlocutors agreed that it is necessary to start solving the accumulated problems in that city without delay.
Palmer expressed the expectation that talks between the SDA and HDZ on the implementation of the political part of the Mostar Agreement, which refers to the reforms of the Election Law and the implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and the BiH Constitutional Court, will continue soon.
“President Izetbegović emphasized that the SDA and HDZ have established principles by an agreement that imply a balance between civic and ethnic, but they will not be able to create a final solution on their own. He pointed out that, given the complexity of the problem, a stronger involvement of representatives of all parliamentary parties, EU and US representatives, but also the non-governmental sector and domestic and foreign legal experts is needed to solve line with European standards,” SDA announced.
