SARAJEVO, February 23 (FENA) - An MP of Our Party in the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament Mirsad Čamdžić and a delegate of the same party in the House of Peoples of the FBiH Vibor Handžić announced today that they will send an urgent initiative to the FBiH Parliament to consider the Draft Law on denial, minimizing, justifying or approving the Holocaust, the crimes of genocide and the crimes against humanity, passed by the House of Representatives exactly five years ago.
"The goal of this Bill is to regulate the sanctioning of the Holocaust denial, crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity, and it was sent to the procedure five years ago by the then representative of Our Party Denis Gratz," said Čamdžić.
He noted that this law has never been on the agenda or considered in the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament.
"I really do not want to believe that, at this moment there is any political force, a political option, which has a problem with this very precise Bill, that has been harmonized with the academic community and with the associations of victims. We hope that this urgency will bear fruit and that this Bill will be on the agenda of the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament as soon as possible.
In essence, this law should not be overly complicated at all, it stipulates that the act of denying, minimizing or approving the Holocaust, crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity is treated as a criminal act in accordance with Article 21 of the FBiH Criminal Code and prescribes fines and imprisonment for violation of the provisions of this law," said Handžić.
He emphasized that all European Union countries have similar regulations, "which provide results and produce sanctions against anyone who relativizes or denies the most brutal suffering of people in the past."
