Activists in Tuzla once again warn of the difficult position of Roma women

FENA

TUZLA, March 8 (FENA) - On the occasion of marking the International Women's Day on March 8 with a street action in Tuzla, the eleventh campaign Month of Roma Women's Activism, launched by the Roma women's network "Success”, has officially started.

Apart from Tuzla, the campaign "It is my right, not a privilege" started at the same time with street actions in Prnjavor, Kakanj, Modriča, Visoko and Bijeljina, and it warns of the extremely difficult status of Roma women and discriminatory position in terms of employment, insufficient participation in political decision-making and governance in government institutions.

“Today we are talking about the position of women in society in general, with a focus on the rights and position of Roma women. We point out that we are not equal, our needs and position are not visible in public policies, we do not feel safe, we are not included and we live a life that does not guarantee us dignity,” said President of the Roma women's network "Success" and Director of the Better Future Association Indira Bajramović.

She believes women still live with prejudice and discrimination.

She is of the opinion that women are not sufficiently represented where decisions are made and where they can improve the position of women.

She stated that there is still a lot of work and great challenges in the fight for women's rights in order to change the situation they are in now.

Emphasizing that women will persevere in achieving their goals and fighting for human rights, she congratulated all women on the occasion of March 8.

In the period from March 8 to April 8, International Roma Day, the members of the Network will organize a series of activities that include holding street actions, meetings with representatives of institutions at all levels and community events.

The campaign is implemented within the regional project "For Active Inclusion and the Rights of Roma Women in the Western Balkans III", which is supported by Austrian Development Cooperation through CARE International Balkans, the support of the OAK Foundation and the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
