Tegeltija: I am not happy that citizens of BiH went to Serbia for vaccination

SARAJEVO, March 30 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zoran Tegeltija (SNSD) said that he is not happy because citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and neighboring countries went to Serbia to be vaccinated, because BiH does not have the sufficient number of vaccines.

Namely, SDP MP in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Saša Magazinović asked Tegeltija at today's session if he is ashamed to be the Chair of the BiH Council of Ministers, which together with other officials forced people to drive 500, 700, 1,000 kilometers in one day to give themselves and their loved ones a chance to be healthy, getting vaccinated in the neighborhood, instead of getting that right in their own country.

“As for me and my personal responsibility, which has been trying to impose on me and my political party through some media, that is absolutely not the case. At this moment, there are 80,000 vaccines in Bosnia and Herzegovina that have arrived and all those vaccines arrived only through activities that were carried out through state institutions,” said Tegeltija.

He says that the main problem with the insufficient amount of vaccines is the fact that pharmaceutical companies do not respect their agreements related to the purchase of vaccines, reminding that BiH signed an agreement for the purchase of vaccines in September 2020, and those vaccines were paid for before the New Year.

He stated that at the moment, out of 1,320,000 vaccines that have been paid for, only 50,000 have been delivered with the announcement that the delivery of vaccines will continue in April also through the COVAX system.

MP Magazinović said that he is not satisfied with the answer, and asked if it is clear to Tegeltija what is the scale of catastrophe.

“Yesterday, 93 people died, and today 92 people. Is it clear to you that 6,112 people have died since the beginning of the pandemic? If we only observed a minute of silence for each of them, we would be silent in parliament here for more than four days. Some of us out of respect, and some of you out of shame, because you should have done it, and you didn't make the number smaller,” stated Magazinović.

Independent Bloc MP Aida Baručija asked the Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers for official information on the quantity and dynamics of vaccine arrivals, and Tegeltija said that 50,000 vaccines were delivered through the COVAX system of 1,320,000 vaccines and that the next delivery was announced in early May - 82,400 vaccines.

He added that the delivery continues successively and that it is estimated that in the second quarter, through this system, between 120 and 150 thousand vaccines will be provided by the manufacturer Pfizer.

The Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers said that BiH received 13,750,000 euros from the EU for this system of procurement of vaccines.

In addition, he said that at this moment, a regional initiative for the countries of the Western Balkans on the procurement of vaccines is underway, and the holder of the project is the Republic of Serbia.
