Novalić: Vaccines are also matter of geopolitics

SARAJEVO, March 30 (FENA) - FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić addressed MPs at today's session of the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament and said that they are working on the procurement of vaccines in FBiH day and night, from February 25. He also said that he has no problem working 24 hours a day if it is necessary, but everyone can see that wholesalers 'don't play until the goods become commercial'.

Vaccines are also a matter of geopolitics, the Prime Minister said, among other things, and added that Serbia has made the best progress in that sense.

The ad-hoc team previously formed by the FBiH Government has not been abolished, Novalić confirmed, and that body proposed, among other things, direct contacts with embassies and purchase of AstraZeneca vaccines from India together with regional countries.

“I immediately called the Prime Minister of Serbia and we got involved. Minister Ankica Gudeljević had already done that, before me to 350,000, but I increased it to 500,000 vaccines. We have joined that group - Macedonia, Montenegro, BiH and Serbia,” said Novalić.

The FBiH Government sent necessary documentation for the purchase of Sputnik V vaccines and made contact with the Russian ambassador, and sent a diplomatic note to the Russian Fund. On the other hand, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Zoran Tegeltija, was also asked from the FBiH level to send an authorization.

FBiH Prime Minister said that they have contacted the United States Embassy and Washington regarding the procurement of Pfizer vaccines.

“Pfizer is willing to talk, but they won’t tell the quantity and delivery time. Sarajevo Canton entered the process much earlier, we wanted to join, but yesterday they told us that it can’t go that way,” said Novalić and added that there is no giving up on these vaccines.

The process of procuring Chinese vaccines has been initiated, however, they have the most complicated procedures, which is why the Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers was asked to act with a letter of intent.
