SARAJEVO, May 5 (FENA) - Today, the BiH Council of Ministers did not agree to take measures to activate the protection clauses of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, which refer to measures for the import of fresh meat from the European Union.
“I again think that this is a bad message to producers and I will say completely openly that I will not give up,” said after the session of the Council of Ministers of BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac.
He does not want to believe that there are "certain structures that lobby enough so that BiH institutions would not make such a decision."
He explained that when beef and pork meat is imported in BiH, there are no customs duties, while in all countries in the region there are.
He underlined that the story that meat will become more expensive is a speculative measure because, as he says, meat will not become more expensive if levies and the full customs rate are introduced in the way that someone predicts.
“There are instruments to prevent this and the elementary issue is to equalize the status of the primary producer in the RS and the Federation of BiH with farmers in the surrounding countries. That is why I will not give up and I will emphasize that this issue is on the agenda of the sessions of the Council of Ministers of BiH. I am sorry that my colleagues from the Federation of BiH do not understand this issue adequately and vote against it. We have the right to say that we want to protect our primary production,” Košarac said after the session.
