SARAJEVO, June 23 (FENA) - Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podžić and his associates received today a high delegation of the Maryland National Guard (United States), led by the Commander of the Maryland National Guard, Major General Timothy E. Gowen.
The visit of the Commander of the Maryland National Guard with associates to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH, which is being held from June 22 to 25, is the result of the implementation of the annual Program of Cooperation between BiH and the USA under the "Military to Military” program for 2021, whereby the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH continue the development of international cooperation with foreign partners.
Minister Podžić pointed out that the USA is a proven friend and strategic partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that he highly appreciates the strong and continuous presence of the USA in the entire region, as well as the commitment to events in BiH, and added that the current cooperation, which is at a high level, will be expanded in the future.
The Minister especially emphasized the long-term cooperation between the two countries through the Military to Military and State Partnership Program (SPP) programs, education and training program, other bilateral and multilateral activities and exercises, and US support in modernization and capacity building of the AFBiH, which is realized through the FMF (Foreign Military Funds) and FMS (Foreign Military Sales) programs.
General Gowen pointed out that the successful cooperation so far is important for both countries and that the United States will continue to support Bosnia and Herzegovina on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration. He also expressed hope that successful cooperation would continue during his term, the BiH Ministry of Defense said.
