SARAJEVO, July 4 (FENA) - The US envoy to the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer today discussed changes to the BiH Election Law with a delegation of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) led by President Bakir Izetbegović.
Izetbegović believes that the talks initiated by the representatives of the international community with the representatives of the opposition parties will direct things forward when it comes to the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament and the election of the members of the Presidency of BiH.
"The SDA is certainly ready to go in that direction if others are willing as well. Today, we need cooperation, good spirit, good intentions from all political parties that make up the parliamentary majority," Izetbegović pointed out.
He also said that the opposition should decide whether it is for the indirect election for the BiH Presidency in the case of the FBiH, proposed by the April package or for a direct election from the model proposed by File.
"Whether they ready at all to talk about any asymmetry because we need a two-thirds majority. If they are ready for one of the three solutions offered, then we are going in that direction and if they are not, then it will be difficult," said Izetbegović.
Although none of the SNSD representatives was at the meeting with Palmer today, Izetbegović, answering the questions from the journalists, said that the SNSD is not ready for an indirect election of the Presidency members.
It is certain that Palmer will talk with the SNSD delegation tomorrow, added Izetbegović.
"They have given up on that element from the April package, which is a problem because we then have asymmetry in the election of a member of the Presidency of BiH. There is no readiness in the SDA, and I doubt that there is readiness in other political parties to support such asymmetry," said the SDA leader.
However, Izetbegović believes that the SNSD will have to make concessions.
