SARAJEVO, July 7 (FENA) - Hungarian Defense Minister Tibor Benko visited the EUFOR base in Butmir and handed over a donation of coronavirus vaccines for local employees provided by the Hungarian Government.
“We cannot defeat this invisible enemy by military means, we can only fight against it by vaccination and that is why the Government of Hungary has decided to make a donation for people in BiH who work together with our peacekeepers, so that they are protected from diseases,” said Benko.
He called on everyone who has the opportunity to be vaccinated to do so, because, he emphasized, that is the only way for everyone to be safe.
He also said that Hungarian soldiers serving in the mission in BiH are doing their best to help maintain peace and stability and promote further progress.
The donation was taken over by Major General Alexander Platzer, Commander of the EUFOR Mission in BiH and Deputy Minister of Defense of BiH Mijo Krešić.
Platzer pointed out that most of the soldiers in the mission have been vaccinated, but that numerous civilians who cooperate with the soldiers also work in EUFOR.
“We have worked hard to provide them with vaccines, we have raised the issue within the international community since we cannot buy vaccines,” Platzer pointed out and added that Hungary paid attention to their needs and reacted immediately.
This, he said, shows a high degree of sense of responsibility for the mission as a whole.
Krešić also said that this donation confirmed the friendship. He also pointed out that the support that Hungary provides to BiH on its path to the EU is especially encouraging.
Vaccination followed immediately after the donation was delivered.
