Re-exhumation begins in Srebrenica for the purpose of re-association of remains

SREBRENICA, July 12 (FENA) - After the collective funeral and burial of the remains of 19 victims and the commemoration of the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide on July 11, a re-exhumation of began this morning at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center to re-associate the mortal remains of the victims that were subsequently found. 

The families of the two victims who gave their consent for re-exhumation in the previous period, have given up this procedure for now and have withdrawn that consent.

The families of the victims whose re-exhumations are being carried out, representatives of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, the investigator of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, ICMP anthropologists and a pathologist will also attend the re-association of skeletal remains.

So far, 859 re-exhumations have been performed at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center to complete the body.

Collective, i.e., large re-exhumations were performed on 13 occasions in which a large number of graves had been reopened, while in 11 cases individual re-exhumations were performed. Of this total, 41 victims were re-exhumed twice.

In the premises of the Podrinje identification project, there are the remains of another 491 victims of genocide who have been identified so far and who are waiting for the consent of their families for re-association.
