SARAJEVO, July 22 (FENA) - Member of the Interdepartmental Working Group for Amendments to the Election Legislation of BiH Bariša Čolak (HDZ BiH) stated today in Sarajevo that the amendments to the Election Law proposed by HDZ BiH are in line with those they had some time ago, which were also checked by the Constitutional Court, based on the statement of the Bosniak caucus in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH on the destructiveness of that proposal in the vital interest of the Bosniak people.
He noted that the Constitutional Court had ruled that the proposal was not destructive to the vital interests of Bosniaks.
"Certain changes have taken place. In order to comply with the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights, we no longer propose the election of one Croat, one Bosniak and one Serb, so that all those who do not declare themselves as Croats, Bosniaks or Serbs can also run for members of the Presidency. Therefore, one representative of Croats, one representative of Bosniaks and one representative of Serbs in the Presidency is being elected," stated Čolak.
Asked in what way the "Sejdić-Finci" verdict was implemented in their proposal, as well as other verdicts of international courts, he answered that all those verdicts demand one thing, they ask for the possibility of candidacy of all, not only representatives of constituent peoples.
Therefore, he stated, as soon as you ensure that everyone runs, regardless of whether someone belongs to this or that group, "all those who do not belong to the constituent people have the right to run."
"I think that this should be respected and this proposal respects it," said Čolak.
Explaining how, according to the proposal, the members of the Presidency of BiH would be elected, he stated that there are three groups of basic constituencies or municipalities, "where those majorities of individual peoples are very important, so that each of the constituent peoples, i.e. in this case Bosniaks and Croats had equal chances to elect one member of the Presidency of BiH".
