SARAJEVO, July 23 (FENA) - Revisionism and genocide denial are not in line with the most fundamental European values and reconciliation is one of the key priorities Bosnia and Herzegovina must fulfill in order to move forward in its EU integration, stated the EU Delegation to BiH when asked to comment on the announcements from the BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik that the dissolution process will begin and that he will prevent the work of the BiH institutions in the RS following High Representative Valentin Inzko's decision to ban genocide denial.
"We are familiar with the adoption of the Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is a decision made by High Representative Valentin Inzko. To be clear: Revisionism and genocide denial are contrary to the most basic European values ," it is stated in the response.
As they further state, reconciliation is one of the key priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission, which Bosnia and Herzegovina must fulfill in order to progress on its path to the EU.
"The EU has been very clear about its expectations in this regard, as well as recently, in a joint statement by EU High Representative Josep Borrell and Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.
The EU expects leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina to act sovereignly to take concrete steps and promote an environment that fosters reconciliation in order to overcome the legacy of war. The EU is unequivocally committed to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The EU strongly calls on all political leaders to refrain from inflammatory and rhetorical divisions, as well as from taking any steps that would jeopardize the country's EU perspective," the EU Delegation said.
