US Embassy: Threats of dissolution of BiH are unacceptable and contrary to DPA

FENA Fedzad Forto

SARAJEVO, July 25 (FENA) - Actions or threats related to the break-up of Bosnia and Herzegovina are unacceptable and contrary to the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which do not give the entities the right to secede, the Public Relations Office of the US Embassy in BiH told FENA in a statement from Saturday.

"Political, religious, and community leaders, as well as the media that report on them, have a responsibility to focus on constructive dialogue instead of the rhetoric of division.

The entity of Republika Srpska is an integral part of Bosnia and Herzegovina and isolation is not in the interest of its citizens.

All leaders should turn to the key tasks of democratic governance and reforms that lead to building a better future for all in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the embassy told FENA when asked for a comment on the announcements from the BiH Presidency member from the RS, Milorad Dodik that this entity will start the process of dissolution and prevent the work of the Institutions of BiH (Prosecutor's Office, SIPA), after High Representative Valentin Inzko passed amendments to the BiH Criminal Code banning genocide denial.

All victims of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina deserve justice, and that is a human rights issue, and no one should take advantage of the suffering of any of the victims for political gain. Establishing individual responsibility for war crimes and rejecting allegations of collective responsibility are equally important for healing and trust-building.

"The United States remains firmly committed to Bosnia and Herzegovina as a democratic, multiethnic, sovereign and independent state with unquestionable territorial integrity and its future, which is best guaranteed in the Euro-Atlantic community of countries. Actions or threats related to the disintegration of Bosnia and Herzegovina are unacceptable and are contrary to the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which do not give the entities the right to secede," it is said in the statement from the US Embassy in BiH.
