SARAJEVO, August 26 (FENA) - The works on the reconstruction of the tram tracks in Sarajevo on the route Ilidža - Nedžarići as part of the reconstruction of the entire section up to Marijin Dvor, officially began this morning in the BiH capital.

The Minister of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Šteta, said on this occasion that the first phase of the works from Nedžarići to Ilidža will last 90 days. In the second phase, which is expected to be completed in May next year, the route from Nedžarić to Remiza will be under construction, and then the works towards Čengić Villa will begin.

"This is the largest, most serious and most complex infrastructure project of public transport in the Sarajevo Canton in the last 60 years. We are starting the renovation of our 21.4-kilometer-long tram line. Today we start from Nedžarići. The plan is for the complete reconstruction of the railway to take 730 days or two years in total," said Šteta.

The project is financed with a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the public call for the contractor was announced according to the rules and regulations of the EBRD. Thus, consortia of two large companies from China were selected, and the subcontractors are local companies.

A representative of the Chinese company said that they will work together with the BiH companies to meet the set deadlines and that the works will be performed with optimal quality.
