SARAJEVO, October 17 (FENA) - A holy liturgy was held today in the Orthodox Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos in Sarajevo, led by the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Porfirije.
Along with the Patriarch, there were also Metropolitans Hrizostom of Dabar-Bosna and Joanikije of the Montenegro-Primorje Diocese, Bishops Dimitrije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and Primorje, Metodije of Budva-Nikšić, Sergije of Bihać-Petrovac, as well as other numerous members of the clergy of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church Porfirije arrived yesterday to visit the Metropolitanate of Dabar-Bosna on the occasion of 50 years of monastic and 30 years of episcopal service of Metropolitan Hrizostom.
In the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Sarajevo, he was welcomed by Metropolitan Hrizostom of who thanked him "because he brings love and peace to Sarajevo".
"Sarajevo is a very broad-minded city, open from all four corners of the world where people from different parts of the world came, brought gifts to it, but also came out of it enriched. The history of Sarajevo teaches us that after the failure and the fall, we again found ways to recognize each other and that we needed each other," said Porfirije.
He emphasized that there are few cities in the world like Sarajevo, and there are almost none in Europe. He says that the richness of Sarajevo is that there are churches, mosques and synagogues within a few hundred meters, coexisting together.
This afternoon, the Patriarch also visited East Sarajevo, where he met with Mayor Ljubiša Ćosić and the municipal mayors of six East Sarajevo municipalities.
