SARAJEVO, October 29 (FENA) - The Government of the Sarajevo Canton and the US Agency for International Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina (USAID in BiH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the E-Governance Project, which establishes mutual cooperation in creating a legal and institutional framework for centralization of Public Procurement in Sarajevo Canton, said the Press Service of the Sarajevo Canton.
The memorandum, signed today by the Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Edin Forto and the USAID BiH Mission Director Courtney Chubb, sets out a common course of action in processes such as improving the efficiency and transparency of public procurement in the Sarajevo Canton, establishing greater accountability and integrity of contracting authorities and bidders in the public procurement procedure, creating better and higher quality administration and bringing public services closer to citizens.
"Public procurement is the main field for corrupt activities, but also the main obstacle for a fast and efficient public sector, for public works and investments. Better governance and stronger control of public procurement reduce corruption and open the door to investment, and thus accelerate economic growth," said Prime Minister Forto.
Improving the legal framework for public procurement, creating preconditions for more efficient spending of budget funds in the Sarajevo Canton, along with improving the procedures and procedures of public administration bodies through digitalization are also some of the determinants of further action of the signatories of this memorandum.
The United States Agency for International Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina - USAID BiH, through the E-Governance Project assists Bosnia and Herzegovina in harmonizing the legislative and regulatory framework of e-government with European Union (EU) directives and best international practice.
