SARAJEVO, November 2 (FENA) - Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Kathleen Kavalec and Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Johann Sattler visited today the Presidency of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH (HJPC BiH) and the leadership of the HJPC Secretariat and discussed the process of selecting and appointing judicial office holders and the revised Strategy for Working on War Crimes Cases.
Part of the meeting was dedicated to the status of the institution in the context of current events, and Sattler and Kavalec expressed full support for the HJPC BiH, as a single regulatory body that guarantees the independence of the judiciary throughout BiH.
On this occasion, Sattler stressed that the partnership between the HJPC BiH and the EU has been established for many years and will remain so, emphasizing that there are noticeable positive changes in the work of the HJPC BiH with the arrival of new leadership and that cooperation between the European Union and the HJPC and BiH at a high level.
Kavalec thanked the HJPC BiH for everything it has done to preserve the rule of law and reform the judiciary, noting that all activities of the OSCE Mission to BiH that have been undertaken so far are also related to preserving and improving the independence of the judiciary in BiH.
Members of the Presidency of the HJPC BiH stressed the need to ensure the unity of the institution in its full capacity, expressing the expectation that the European Union, as well as the OSCE Mission to BiH will have strong support in case of crisis, the HJPC said.
