SARAJEVO, November 11 (FENA) - Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Johann Sattler, Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton Edin Forto and Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of SC Enver Hadžiahmetović paid a visit to Nedžarići Student Dormitory and marked the beginning of the campaign 'New day, better air', which refers to the improvement of air quality in the Sarajevo Canton.

The European Union, together with international partners and the SC Government, has undertaken significant activities, through several ongoing projects, that will reduce pollution in the Sarajevo Canton. The student dormitory in Nedžarići, where students from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina live, is one of the beneficiaries of the warming project 'Energy efficiency in public buildings in the Sarajevo Canton'.

Thanks to this project, 40 public buildings in the Sarajevo Canton (kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, colleges, dormitories, and health care institutions) will be included in works on thermal insulation of facades, replacement of dilapidated windows and doors, installation of energy efficient lighting and improvement of heating systems.

Ambassador Sattler emphasized in a press statement that changes in air quality are possible, but that requires a plan, commitment, money, and then implementation.

“We have joined forces with the Government of SC, we have allocated ten million euros that will help equip public buildings. We will do the renovation of facades, carpentry (exterior and interior). We are also participating in the renovation of the railway, investments are being made in new trams and trolleybuses. We have joined forces with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and today the campaign "New day, better air" begins,” Sattler emphasized.

Sattler expressed his appreciation to the Government of Austria, which has also allocated money for this purpose.

Cantonal Prime Minister Edin Forto stressed the multiple benefits of projects like this, and the importance of further investment in the like.

Funding for the project was provided through a European Union grant of two million euros, a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the amount of eight million euros, and funds from the Austrian Government in the amount of 0.5 million euros.
