MOSTAR, November 19 (FENA) - Vaccines against human papillomavirus (HPV) are still not present on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the BiH Medicines Agency. confirmed for FENA.
The Mostar city pharmacy confirmed that this vaccine is not available in retail because it is not possible to order it and the same was confirmed by other privately-owned pharmacies in Mostar and other cities.
Even it it was available for import and distribution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the vaccine could be bought in pharmacies at extremely high prices.
The vaccination against HPV is not in the program of mandatory immunization in our country.
Although Bosnia and Herzegovina is a leading country in Europe when it comes to the incidence rate of cervical cancer, the HPV vaccine is still pending.
In our country, more than a hundred women die each year from cervical cancer, and about five hundred get sick.
When it comes to HPV vaccination in the region, in Croatia, it is free for girls and boys as of the eighth grade, as well as for high school students.
Serbia has put the HPV vaccine on the list of recommended ones in the National Immunization Program, but the cost is still borne by the patient.
