Izetbegović: Mass participation of diaspora in elections is a generational task

FENA Press release

MAINZ / SARAJEVO, November 21 (FENA) - A solemn ceremony was held in the German city of Mainz on the occasion of November 25, the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at which the Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Bakir Izetbegović addressed the audience.

Speaking about the history of BiH, Izetbegović said that remembering the past traces the future of the homeland, and that the victims and hardships it went through strengthened BiH and its patriots. Izetbegović pointed out that from the Middle Ages, through the first bans until King Tvrtko I Kotromanić, BiH had its own uniqueness.

“No matter how much Croatian and even more Serbian historiography tried to present Bosnia as their own territory, and its medieval population as Croats or Serbs, there is enough solid evidence that Bosnia was separate and special, as well as its population that was Orthodox and Catholic, and not Croats or Serbs, especially in today's context of these national terms,” Izetbegović explained.

He said that the Resolution of ZAVNOBiH, whose adoption anniversary is marked as Statehood Day, determined the future of BiH as a state of equal peoples.

During the last aggression, Izetbegović reminded, BiH was faced with destruction, but, as he said, the patriots offered tenacious resistance, and the RBiH Army grew into a dominant military force.

Speaking about the current problems in BiH, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly said that the mild reaction of the international community encouraged nationalist policies which, among other things, openly denied genocide, celebrated war criminals and insulted Bosniaks.

“The current situation requires a unique, mature approach, as well as coordination on all important issues. There should be no divisions and mistrust in the pro-Bosnian bloc, nor in relations with friends from the international community. In the protection of the state of BiH and its institutions, there must be no division into position and opposition and fights for party interests. Because, in the fateful issues for our homeland BiH, which do not concern only the current generation, but also the generation of our children and grandchildren, everything else must be left aside,” said Izetbegović.

Izetbegović pointed out the unconstitutionality and illegality of the actions taken and announced by the authorities in the RS entity, led by Milorad Dodik.

He paid special attention to the process of registration of voters from abroad and voting in the elections, especially in the RS entity.
