SARAJEVO, February 1 (FENA) - US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson, at the end of his term, thanked the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the hospitality they showed him and said that the United States is the strongest partner of BiH.
Nelson is ending his three-year term, and his successor will be Michael Murphy, who will take office soon.
"Connecting people and increasing the level of inclusion in civic, political, economic, and cultural life has been at the heart of my efforts during this term," the US ambassador said in a video message posted on Twitter.
He noted that the United States is Bosnia and Herzegovina's strongest partner in these efforts and promised continued support for BiH.
Nelson referred to the projects that the embassy carried out during his office, including the Bold project for youth leaders, which is an opportunity for young people to train how to become leaders.
"I had the opportunity to see the huge potential that this country offers. I talked to the citizens and saw that they are committed to the European future of BiH. The United States has the same hope," Nelson said.
That is why, according to the ambassador, they worked hard on cooperation with the European Union in order to encourage the implementation of important reforms, including electoral reform.
- I witnessed the key achievements of BiH, including its progress in partnership with NATO, the elections in Mostar, and the Pride Parade, which showed a strong commitment to freedom of assembly and respect for human rights - he said.
Noting that, like many, he is disappointed with BiH's slow progress, he said he was convinced that "the resilience, perseverance, adaptability and commitment I saw as characteristics of BiH citizens will continue to change this country for the better, step by step."
- I will always gladly remember the time I spent in Bosnia and Herzegovina with Filip and our adopted stray dog Burek - Ambassador Nelson concluded in his farewell message.
