Mayors of Sarajevo and Sofia sign Memorandum of Cooperation between the two capitals

SARAJEVO, February 4 (FENA) - Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karić is on a two-day official visit to Sofia at the invitation of Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova. The mayors signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two cities, which will strive to strengthen friendship and partnership in all areas of interest to the citizens of Sarajevo and Sofia. 

“Creating partnerships between cities enables faster transfer of knowledge, experiences and good practices. The future of Europe is in the cooperation of cities and the improvement of their, primarily economic and cultural ties, which will result in a higher quality of life for their citizens. That is why I believe that with today's signature on this document, we have laid a strong foundation for building quality relations in the future between our capitals,” said Mayor Karić.

The memorandum envisages a range of relations and interests between the cities of Sarajevo and Sofia and their citizens in the field of culture, tourism, sports, youth, and especially infrastructure and preservation of cultural and historical heritage, where joint projects for mutual benefit can be realized through IPA funds.

Since the cities of Sarajevo and Sofia are members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Mayors Karić and Fandakova discussed the possibilities of networking cultural institutions, visiting artists and exchanging cultural events, especially when it comes to renowned international film events: Sarajevo Film Festival and Sofia Film Festival.
