SARAJEVO, February 13 (FENA) - Director of the FBiH Office of Statistics (FZS) Emir Kremić told FENA that a working group to prepare a methodology for calculating the price of the market basket should be formed soon.
He reminded that in 2008 the FZS stopped publishing data on the minimum and average price of the market basket, and that there have been no official data since then.
Kremić stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina, on its way to membership in the European Union, is continuously working on harmonization with the acquis communautaire and standards.
“Data on the market basket published until 2008 were based on the 1991 census. Since these data were not updated, the FZS began drafting a survey on household consumption, in cooperation with the BiH Agency for Statistics and entity institutions, which is a standard that follows the EU,” said Kremić.
He emphasized that the FZS, after the census conducted in BiH in 2013 and the data published in 2016, in cooperation with the Agency for Statistics of BiH, began to update the sample that will be applied to all surveys.
“The largest number of inquiries received by the FZS was related to data on the market basket that were not published, so we proposed to the FBiH Government the development of a methodology that is very complex,”said Kremić.
He explained that it was proposed to form a working group with representatives of the Office of the Prime Minister of FBiH, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Trade of FBiH and with the support of experts from the World Bank.
“We think that the conditions have been created for that, considering that the census was conducted, the results were published and the sample was updated, and we have a fresh basis for the preparation of that methodology,” said Kremić.
