SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) - Deputy Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers and Minister of Finance and Treasury Vjekoslav Bevanda received today Director-General of the Loans Department of the Saudi Development Fund Abdullah Arlomeihom and Director of Operations for Europe and Latin America Bandar Alharbi.
The meeting discussed the implementation of projects in BiH that were financially supported by Saudi Arabia through this fund.
Representatives of the Saudi Fund pointed out that they are financing projects worth 133 million USD in BiH, and the grant funds amount to around 52 million USD.
During the meeting, the problem of impossibility to implement the Memorandum of Understanding between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and BiH for the construction and equipment of the King Salman Bin Abdulazis Research Institute and the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology was highlighted.
Minister Bevanda reminded his interlocutors that this memorandum did not receive support in 2017 in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, which did not make it possible to complete the ratification process as provided by law and that the reasons for the delay are beyond the competence of the BiH Ministry of Finance and Treasury.
Cooperation between BiH and the Saudi Fund began in 1999 and projects focused on the transport and road communications sector, building infrastructure in several cities in BiH, building and equipping hospitals, housing units for refugees and displaced persons, and funding economic recovery and the education sector.
Also, the agreement on avoidance of double taxation between BiH and Saudi Arabia was ratified in 2007 and is being implemented without hindrance, the CoMBiH said.
