SARAJEVO, April 11 (FENA) - Freedom of the media is a pillar of democracy, it was said at today's meeting between the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nebojša Radmanović, the delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina Lidija Bradara and the head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Kathleen Kavalec.
It was pointed out that freedom of the media is an important precondition for the overall development of society and that everything should be done to improve not only the physical but also the existential security of journalists in the world. the responsibility of the media for the spoken and written word and the elimination of hate speech.
It was said at the meeting that the work of the Bosnian media is strongly influenced by the divisions on the BiH political scene, which is a long-standing problem and it is difficult to expect someone on the sidelines to offer a solution overnight instead of persistently seeking actors in BiH.
At the same time, it was pointed out that the work of the media in BiH is burdened with reflections on current problems on the global scene, it was announced from the Public Relations Department of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
Relevant international institutions do not assess the state of media freedoms in BiH as bad, but there is room for progress.
Radmanović and Bradara thanked the OSCE for its willingness to continue to contribute to the overall development of democratic relations in BiH, emphasizing its openness to the advisory assistance of that international organization in the process of further strengthening media freedom.
