SARAJEVO, April 26 (FENA) - Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Johann Sattler attended today the final conference of the project "Strengthening Media Literacy of Young People in Bosnia and Herzegovina" at the Grbavica Youth Center in Sarajevo and presented awards for the three best works created as a result of a competition in which teams created works on youth media and information literacy.

The first prize went to the team of the Secondary Vocational School in Tomislavgrad, the second prize to the School Center "Fr. Martin Nedić" in Orašje and the third prize to the Secondary Vocational School "Džemal Bijedić" in Goražde. The project "Strengthening the media literacy of young people in BiH" is implemented by Mediacentar Sarajevo and the BORAM Agency with the financial support of the European Union.

“The topic of the project is media literacy and the fight against disinformation. I am glad that the winners this time do not come from larger centers such as Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar, but from Tomislavgrad, Orašje and Goražde,” said Sattler, expressing gratitude to young people for participating in the project and demonstrated innovation.

According to him, the slogan of the project "Not everything that is written is true" best describes the campaign that included a significant number of people, and the focus of today's activity is on young people and their media literacy. Within the project, 10 workshops were held in 10 cities across BiH, where a total of 100 high school students, through theoretical and practical work, learned about recognizing false from true information and analyzed the media content they read every day.

“Disinformation is not unknown and in general has always been present in the history of mankind. However, what has changed the whole environment is technological advances. In the multitude of information, it is important to learn from an early age to distinguish between wrong and correct information. In a significant number of EU member states, media literacy is integrated into curricula. Unfortunately, this is not the case in BiH yet, but we are working on it and as the EU we will continue to provide support in that area as well,” said Sattler.
