SARAJEVO, July 8 (FENA) - OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina organized today in Sarajevo the round table on the the link between human trafficking and terrorism and better cooperation in the fight against these phenomena.
Legal Adviser of the Rule of Law Department of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rebecca Agule, stated that since 2003, the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina has been cooperating with local partners and institutions to improve responses to serious security threats, including human trafficking and terrorism.
She added that this includes ensuring greater protection and support for victims of these crimes, as well as appropriate institutional and legislative measures.
“It is important to discuss the link between human trafficking and terrorism and the ways in which terrorist groups exploit human trafficking, which is a rather neglected problem,” said Agule.
Tarana Bagirova from the Office of the OSCE Special Representative and Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking stated that last year's research they conducted showed that there is a similarity in the way terrorists and human traffickers work, especially when it comes to the use of force and fraud in the recruitment process.
“In conclusion, we brought recommendations that include prevention, protection, prosecution and partnership, and another special one that refers to children who are victims,” Bagirova pointed out.
She expressed the hope that the round table will contribute to better cooperation and dialogue among experts and others who fight against both of these phenomena.
