SARAJEVO, August 1 (FENA) - Exports of the agricultural and food industry sector of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first half of the year amounted to 488 million KM, which represents an increase of 89 million KM or 22 percent compared to the same period last year.
Fats and oils of vegetable and animal origin, meat products, grain-based products, beverages, alcohol and vinegar, milk and dairy products, edible fruits contribute the most to exports.
The value of imports is significantly higher and amounts to two billion KM, which is an increase of 470.5 million KM or 31 percent compared to the same period last year. We mainly import meat and other meat products, various food products, food scraps - animal feed, grain-based products and beverages, alcohol and vinegar.
According to the data of the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, the sector of agro and food industry in the total export of BiH participates with 5.3 percent, and in the total import with 14.4 percent. The volume of foreign trade exchange of that sector in the first half of the year was about 2.5 billion KM and is 28.5 percent higher than in the same period last year.
Although Bosnia and Herzegovina has healthy and drinking water, water exchange still results in a deficit that amounted to almost 85 million KM in the first half of the year. In the period January - June, water worth 109.3 million KM was imported, and 24.6 million KM was exported. Water is mostly imported from Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary and Serbia.
