BIHAĆ, October 23 (FENA) – The oil terminals in Bihać were built at the end of the 70s of the last century and were under the jurisdiction of the Federal Directorate of Commodity Reserves. Today, they are under the jurisdiction of the "Operator – Terminals of the Federation of BiH" d.o.o. Sarajevo.
In addition to the military terminals located in the Pokoj settlement in Bihać, there are also continental terminals located in the Ribić settlement. During the war, these terminals suffered severe damage caused by military operations and shelling.
In the former state, they covered the area from Bihać to Prijedor, where the following facilities were located. The storage capacity was 21 million liters, which was enough for the then population and consumption to function undisturbed for six months.
Right before the start of the war, the Yugoslav People’s Army pumped out almost all the stored fuel, and then the locals rebelled and prevented the complete spill. At the beginning of the war, the rest was used for the functioning of the then Bihać district.
“The terminals are functional, but the technology is outdated, especially the measuring technology and valves. They are also questionable from the aspect of protection and fire protection. The flow of time has taken its toll and these materials have their shelf life. So it is necessary to do reconstruction,” says Ibrahim Dizdarević, manager of the branch in Bihać.
Terminals are financed through fuel levies, but these are very small figures, which are only sufficient to maintain the existing structure and infrastructure.
The directive of the Council of the European Union states that each country applying for membership must have total oil reserves corresponding to the amount to be imported in 90 days. Based on this, there are recommendations to go into the reconstruction of the existing infrastructure of the terminal.
