SARAJEVO, March 27 (FENA) - Export-oriented companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina should harmonize their operations with the new German Supply Chain Law, which came into force on January 1.

This was one of the conclusions from the meeting at the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, where representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises, competent institutions and chambers of commerce in BiH discussed the requirements that small and medium-sized enterprises will have with the introduction of the Supply Chain Law.

Although this law, as stated, is mandatory only for German companies with more than 3,000 employees, as of January 1, it indirectly affects all export-oriented companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"The first steps that companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina should take to comply with this new law is to, first of all, look at their supply chain and see to what extent human rights and processes related to environmental protection are respected within that chain," said at the press conference the senior head of international projects at Arqum GmbH, Philipp Poferi.

Also, for BiH companies, it is of utmost importance to conduct talks with their clients, German companies, and to take all necessary actions in order to be able to answer questions regarding the state of human rights and environmental protection at their suppliers and in their operations.

If BiH companies that the Supply Chain Law seriously, it will lead to improvements in occupational safety, the protection of human rights and the environment, noted Poferi.
