GORAŽDE, March 29 (FENA) - Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Johann Sattler, visited the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton (BPC) Goražde today, where he discussed the implementation of projects with representatives of the executive and legislative authorities, as well as the Euro-Atlantic path of BiH and obligations that our country has after obtaining candidacy status.

“I am glad to be back in Goražde, and today I discussed various topics with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Assembly, but first of all I congratulated them for being the first in Bosnia and Herzegovina to form a Government after the elections and thereby showing that they want to work and be at the service of its citizens,” said Ambassador Sattler.

He reminded that the European Union granted BiH candidacy status at the end of last year and it represents an extremely important step for BiH, which has to work on 14 key priorities to start negotiations.

“There is a lot of work now at the state level. It is necessary to pass laws concerning the judiciary and otherwise improve the rule of law, to pass laws on preventing conflicts of interest and amend the Law on the HJPC, but many things can be done at the cantonal level, which we mostly talked about today. We talked about things we can work on together, such as big infrastructure projects like the Hranjen Tunnel, the construction of which would halve the time it takes to get from Sarajevo to Goražde and vice versa,” he stressed.

Sattler said that he is pleased that BPC Goražde is interested in transition and that the great potential of this area represents great opportunities.

Cantonal officials said that they were encouraged by today's visit, during which they learned several useful information. Prime Minister of BPC Goražde Edin Ćulov said that he sees a great opportunity in the projects.

“We talked about the projects that are of great importance for BPC Goražde and the public must know that one of them is the Hranjen Tunnel. I complained that we don't have enough investments for next year, for the next tender, and the Ambassador promised to help. We also talked about water, development of tourism and numerous other projects, education, bringing schools and industry closer to employment, development of projects for renewable energy sources,” emphasized Ćulov.
