SARAJEVO, April 26 (FENA) - The Red Cross Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina (DCKBH) and the United Nations in BiH (UNBiH) have signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on the cooperation in fulfilling the Program for Sustainable Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina until 2030.

As highlighted at the signing ceremony, the goal is to achieve cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as disaster preparedness and response and disaster risk reduction, climate action, migration, health, education, youth and volunteering, as well as many others.

According to the General Secretary of the BiH Red Cross Rajko Lazić, with the aim of strategically cooperating in areas of mutual interest, regular strategic coordination and consultations will be held on an annual basis to exchange relevant information, assessments and plans, but also to identify potential opportunities for joint partnership, with the participation of relevant structures of the United Nations and the Society of the Red Cross of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

UN BiH Resident Coordinator Ingrid Macdonald emphasized that global challenges cannot be managed by any institution, organization or country alone.

“As the Charter of the United Nations clearly stated in 1945, we must "join our efforts to achieve our goals". As it was then, so it is today - we must work together - through different sectors, societies and organizations. In this context, today we celebrate the strengthening of the partnership between the United Nations and the Red Cross Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina, combining our complementary mandates and capacities to support more sustainable, inclusive and fair development solutions for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Macdonald.

As the Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmir Camić, said, today's event took place as part of the strategic meeting at the executive level for the general secretaries of eight national societies.

The Red Cross Society of BiH together with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) contributes to the achievement of the global sustainable development goals (SDG) of the United Nations as the world's largest humanitarian network and an organization with permanent observer status in the United Nations.

The agencies FAO, ILO, OHCHR, UNHCR, UNDP, UNEP, UNDRR, UNESCO, UNECE, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNODC, UNV, UN Woman and WHO operate in Bosnia and Herzegovina under the United Nations.
