BRATUNAC, May 12 (FENA) - A funeral prayer was held today for six victims of war crimes from 1992 committed by members of the RS Army at the Veljaci Martyr's Cemetery in Bratunac. The prayer service was led by the deputy rais-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Enes ef. Ljevaković.
The funeral was held for Alija Hodžić (29), Amir Paraganlija (7), Sabaheta Hasanović (40), Safija Paraganlija (31), Rukija Paraganlija (67) and Šaćir Muminović (40).
A total of 316 Bratunac victims found their eternal peace with today's funeral, and around 200 more are being sought.
Vice-President of BiH entity RS Ćamil Duraković said that the adjudged genocide in Srebrenica began in the spring of 1992 in Podrinje. The first victims of the war in BiH, he points out, fell in Podrinje.
In addition to local representatives of the authorities, today's funeral was also attended by the US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Michael J. Murphy.
"We must continue to work actively to find missing persons, but also seek justice by prosecuting those who are the perpetrators of these crimes. This is exactly the kind of reconciliation that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs in order to continue building its democracy and to be able to develop as it deserves," said Ambassador Murphy.
The people of Bratunac are dissatisfied with the work of the BiH Prosecutor's Office because, as they claim, they meet people who have committed crimes every day on the city streets.
70 percent of Bosniaks used to live in Bratunac Municipality, and a large number of them were killed in the genocide in Srebrenica in July 1995. The remains of the Bratunac martyrs have been found so far in as many as 601 locations, but around 200 are still being searched for.
