SARAJEVO, May 26 (FENA) - Members of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children in the Siege of Sarajevo 1992-1995, today marked the anniversary of the killing of five babies in the "Dr. Zehra Muidović" maternity hospital during the siege of Sarajevo.
On that occasion, members of the Association and representatives of the maternity hospital laid flowers in front of the memorial plaque, which reminds of this terrible crime.
"It is important to nurture the culture of memory so that history does not repeat itself. I am one of those who no longer have children. They killed my only child, and I can understand all those who think like me, and that is that I am not malicious, that I do not wish harm on anyone, and that, like other parents of murdered children, I will always come to this and other places where our youngest, our fellow citizens of all ages were killed. As long as we live, we will come to places like this," said the vice president of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children in the Besieged Sarajevo, Alija Hodžić.
He adds that "babies were innocent little beings, newly born who knew absolutely nothing about war or anything else".
"However, the aggressor wanted in this way to kill the soul, the will to live and what the defenders and citizens of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina wanted - freedom, equality, justice, to live in peace, harmony and togetherness. The aggressor wanted to destroy the will of the people who defended this country and this city, they wanted to destroy us psychologically by killing our children," said Hodžić.
On this day, May 26, 1992, a great battle was fought for the defense of the maternity hospital "Dr. Zehra Muidović" in Sarajevo's Jezero neighborhood, which was on the front line. Five babies were killed on that fateful day.
