SARAJEVO, June 15 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nenad Nešić, met today with the newly appointed Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope. Long-term cooperation with this institution in migration management, but also through a number of other joint projects, was highlighted.
Nešić expressed his belief that Pope, as a representative of an influential country such as the United States of America, a high-ranking official with rich experience in the administrations of Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and in the field of migration, will help the countries on the migrant route to more efficiently solve all security and humanitarian challenges.
He added that although the migrant crisis is behind us, trends show that the influx of migrants to Bosnia and Herzegovina will not stop in the coming period. That is why they discussed the continuation of IOM's cooperation and support to the competent institutions of BiH for strengthening the capacity, organization of work and procedures for dealing with migrants.
The importance of improving cooperation with the countries of the region to better manage the migration on the entire Balkan route was emphasized, announced the Ministry of Security of BiH.
Nešić announced the active participation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the definition of regional policies and the development of migration and asylum systems, in accordance with the standards of the European Union, stressing that this is one of the long-term strategic goals of BiH.
