NEW YORK, July 18 (FENA) - During the discussion held last night in the UN Security Council, Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the statement made by the ambassador of the European Union to the UN on behalf of the European Union, candidate countries, potential candidate countries and partner countries, Olof Skoog.

Skoog je tokom svog izlaganja iznio tri principa kojih će se EU držati kada je u pitanju rješavanje situacije u Ukrajini.

In his address, Skoog outlined three principles that the EU will adhere to when it comes to solving the situation in Ukraine.

"President, we want to repeat our decisive condemnation of the Russian war against aggression, which is a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law. We also condemn Iran and Belarus' continued military support for Russia's war of aggression. The EU is unwavering in our support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, as well as its inherent right to self-defense.

Let me emphasize three points in my intervention: The need for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace, the importance of addressing the global consequences of Russian aggression, and the need to hold Russia and its leadership accountable. The people of Ukraine, the international community and almost all members of the Council have repeatedly expressed their desire for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine. In accordance with the UN Charter, General Assembly resolutions and international law, we welcome all international efforts in this regard, including the recent visit of African leaders. The EU will maintain its support for Ukraine and will continue our work to ensure the widest possible international support for the key principles and objectives for peace in Ukraine.

I underlined what many others have said this afternoon that any initiative for sustainable peace in Ukraine must be based on full respect for its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders - Skoog said in his presentation, the UN press service reported.

The decision by the Russian Federation to terminate the Black Sea Grain Initiative will strike a blow to people in need everywhere, a senior United Nations official warned the Security Council today, emphasizing that in addition to causing unconscionable death and destruction, the war in Ukraine has greatly diminished the international community’s ability to face an uncertain future.

Olof Skoog, Head of Delegation of the European Union, in its capacity as an observer, welcomed all international efforts towards comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine in line with the Charter of the United Nations, General Assembly resolutions and international law, including the recent visit by African leaders.

For its part, the Union will support Ukraine as long as it takes and will continue its work to ensure the widest possible international support for the key principles and objectives of Ukraine’s peace formula.

Expressing regret over Moscow’s decision to withdraw from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, he said that the initiative’s suspension creates widespread uncertainty in global markets and exacerbates the dire situation of food-importing countries.

He added that the EU spared no efforts to support the UN in reaching an agreement and finding a compromise that would enable reconstruction.

The European Union and the co-signatories of its statement, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, called on Russia to reconsider its decision and once again noted that there would have been no need for such an initiative if Russia had not launched an invasion on Ukraine.

Skoog ended his presentation by reiterating his determination to ensure Russia's accountability for the crime of aggression committed in Ukraine, it was announced on the official Twitter profile of the EU mission to the UN.
