BRUSSELS, July 19 (FENA) - Chair of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, spoke today in Brussels with the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, about the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The meeting was held on the eve of the 5th meeting of the Stabilization and Association Council between BiH and the EU, the Council of Ministers of BiH announced.

Chair Krišto said that the granting of candidate status to our country is a significant step forward that gives a new dimension to the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU and a motive for maximum engagement of the institutions responsible for European integration issues. She emphasized that the BiH Council of Ministers is doing everything to fulfill the 14 priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission.

She added that BiH's European path has no alternative and that all levels of government are actively implementing reforms to accelerate integration processes.

Yesterday's unanimous adoption of two agreements from the Berlin process by the BiH Presidency was welcomed during the meeting. It was pointed out that an open, constructive, and partnership political dialogue between the institutions and officials of BiH, on the one hand, and the institutions and officials of the European Union and its member states, on the other hand, is a key element for strengthening and improving relations.

Chair Krišto pointed out that she expects Bosnia and Herzegovina to open membership negotiations by the end of 2023. She said that the progress and betterment of BiH largely depend on the strengthening and improvement of mutual trust, internal dialogue, and consensus of the legitimate political representatives of the constituent nations regarding the most important internal political issues related to the implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH and the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, for which there will be necessary limited changes to the Constitution of BiH and electoral legislation.

Before meeting with the High Representative of the EU Borrell, the Chair Krišto also met with the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, with whom she discussed EU integration and regional issues.
