Borovac-Narayan: Coordinate activities in area of children's rights protection

SARAJEVO, January 22 (FENA) - State Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Semiha Borovac met today with Geeta Narayan, Representative of UNICEF in BiH and her newly appointed deputy Alwin Nijholt.

They talked about monitoring of implementation of rights of a child and Narayan emphasized that BiH is a positive example when it comes to speed and quality of reporting on implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child thanks to dedicated role of Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and its successful coordination with institutions on all levels of BiH authorities.

Borovac said that goal of the Ministry is not only reporting, but also ongoing monitoring of implementation and protection of rights of the child in BiH, and she asked UNICEF for further support in sense of providing professional assistance to further improve this area.

It was concluded that special attention needs to be paid to coordination of activities and determining of priorities in protection of rights of the child, with emphasis on fight against violence against children. In order to prevent overlap of significant projects, that is, to introduce coordination system, the Ministry will arrange a meeting next month with government, international and non-governmental organizations that are dealing with promotion and protection of rights of the child, where current projects will be reviewed and priorities determined for activities in the upcoming period.  

When it comes to successful projects implemented with the Ministry, Narayan mentioned Guidelines "Media in the Best Interest of the Child" and making of the Situation analysis on position of children with difficulties in development, which will be promoted in March this year.

Special attention was also paid to the issue of Roma, in sense of preparation for the overall research which will be done next year, which is expected to show results that significant funds allocated for Roma issues have given and how much they improved living conditions of Roma in BiH, Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH stated.
