SARAJEVO, February 6 (FENA) - Representatives of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs and Representatives of UNHCR in Bosnia and Herzegovina at today's meeting exchanged information on an increased number of asylum seekers in Bosnia and Herzegovina and assessed the need for strengthening the capacity of the Service for Task Implementation within its jurisdiction.
The meeting was attended by the Director of Service for Foreigners' Affairs Slobodan Ujić, Deputy Director of Service for Foreigners' Affairs Mirsad Buzar, Deputy UNHCR Representative for South East Europe Francesco Bonelli and Senior Counselor for UNHCR Protection in BiH Stephanie Woldenberg.
"UNHCR recognizes the importance of the role of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs when referring the applicant toward asylum processes in BiH and has been enjoying, through the years, together with other participants in these processes, exceptional cooperation in providing support to many people in need of international protection. While most of UNHCR's support is related to capacity building and training, we are happy to support the Service for Foreigners' Affairs today through the donation of IT-related and office equipment that will be of assistance in their work, including work for the benefit of asylum seekers," said Ms. Bonelli, stated the UNHCR.
