SREBRENICA, March 20 (FENA) - The Srebrenica municipality region is an area rich with necropolises of medieval tombstones known as ‘stečci’ - there are 50 such locations, and they contain from up to 950 to 1,000 tombstones, said the Curator of the Museum Collection of the National Library of Srebrenica Senad Đozić.
He stressed that the territory of Srebrenica contains several localities that have been declared national monuments of BiH as of 2010.
“These are the historical area of the necropolis of tombstones at the location of Mramorje in the settlement of Buče, then the locality of Grebrnica, the village of Urusići, the village of Luka, Kutuzer in the Municipality of Srebrenica and the necropolis with tombstones in the locality of Mramorje, Bektića brdo, Bektići settlement. Almost all necropolises from the territory of Srebrenica have been nominated to be declared national monuments,” Đozić explained.
Đozić also explained that the area of Srebrenica also has several archaeological sites from the era of Roman Municipium Skelani, and the entire complex has been declared an archaeological site and a national monument.
“Municipium Malvesiatium is the name of a Roman city that existed here from the 1st to the 4th century AD. Exhibits from the period of the Roman rule were found in this region in the archaeological research of 2008. In addition to numerous remains and artifacts, during this excavation, well preserved remains of a floor mosaic were also found, which covers the surface of over 100 square meters,,” said Đozić.
