SARAJEVO, March 30 (FENA) - Only 32 percent of women in BiH are active in the labor market - employed, self-employed or looking for a job, which is the lowest rate in Europe, highlighted the participants of the "PoWEr" Women Entrepreneurship Conference held today in Sarajevo.

They presented a fact that 260,696 women in BiH are unemployed, of which 25% have been unemployed for over five years. As a result, an increasing number of women are deciding to start their own businesses, in which they are assisted by numerous organizations.

One of them is the Foundation for Socio-Economic Development 787, which, with the support of the US Embassy, implements a program of economic empowerment of women PoWEr, intended for women in BiH who have a business idea and a desire to start their own business.

Chairman of the Managing Board of the Foundation 787, Dijana Duvnjak, said the Foundation was out of the need to provide women and young people as their target group a better position in society.

“This program concerned economic empowerment of women, specifically 16 women from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina who decided to develop their business ideas, and the program was conceived through three multi-day modules that followed the development of a business plan, market research, and connecting with mentors from the relevant areas in relation to the business ideas,” Ms. Duvnjak said.

Sedina Krivdić from Visoko is engaged in the production of fruit liqueurs and fruit rakija, and she applied for the participation in this program at the beginning of her business activities.

“The PoWEr program has been very useful, not just at that time, but also afterward. Specifically, we have completed the lessons, but what remains to us as a lasting benefit of the program is the fact that we can always contact professional people for help when we need it. Also, the program has shortened the time we need for research. All 16 participants had good ideas, but we did not know where to start, what we needed for registration. I would certainly recommend this program to all women who have some good ideas,” Ms. Krivdić added.
