ISTANBUL/SARAJEVO, February 20 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó in Istanbul to discuss the fight against illegal migration.
Mektić informed Szijjártó about the challenges that Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing in that aspect, as well as problems with the so-called migrants’ Balkan route.
Foreign Minister Szijjártó offered the possibility that the Hungarian police help the Border Police of BiH to protect the border from illegal migrants, emphasizing that such cooperation already exists with Serbia and Macedonia.
Mektić also spoke with the Director of the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Michael Spindelegger on the resolution of the migrant situation.
Director Spindelegger announced the opening of the ICMPD regional office in order to strengthen the presence in the Western Balkans.
Mektić proposed that this office be in Bosnia and Herzegovina, given the geographical position, of BiH and the country’s commitment to regional resolution of migration issues, and other advantages for the operation of this organization.
Mektić leads the BiH delegation in Istanbul at a ministerial conference of the Budapest Process, the BiH Security Ministry stated.
