BANJA LUKA, September 24 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik said today at the establishment and formal display of a gendarmerie unit within the entity's Interior Ministry that the RS is sending a message that it wants stability and peace as a priority, but is also ready to face any challenge that may come from any side to jeopardize the constitutional order or the safety of citizens.

“This is one of the important days for all the RS institutions, including this one, with this display of gendarmerie unit, as the RS's commitment to strengthen the police and to convince citizens that the police have the ability of defense against any attempts to attack the constitutional order and security of RS citizens. Under the Constitution, we have the right to address security issues. That is how this should be viewed. We remain within the framework of the Dayton Agreement, we are organizing ourselves in a new way, and we are adapting to new circumstances,” Dodik told reporters.

He added that the RS has not given up on the establishment of a reserve police force, but “only that its formation has been prolonged due to financial means.”

“We will consider and wait for the opportunity to form a reserve force, as it was proven to be the best way to defend and protect the territory and security,” Dodik said, stating that “the establishment of the RS reserve police force has been condemned by the Federation of BiH and foreign officials, without going further into substance.”

He added that "the RS gendarmerie is a mobile unit and that the RS has modeled it by taking an example of such units in the west."

The entity president Željka Cvijanović said the gendarmerie is a step forward in strengthening the RS MoI.
