SARAJEVO, August 18 (FENA) - Police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency of BiH (SIPA), in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime of the Republic of Serbia and police officers of the Agency for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, realized an operation code-named "Kayak" and arrested two people in the area of Bratunac.
The operation was carried out on the order of the prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
In this operation, so far, nine suspects have been arrested in the territory of both countries.
The Southeast European Law Enforcement Center - SELEC provided support on this case.
During this operation, SIPA police officers arrested two people in the Bratunac area due to well-founded suspicion that as members of an organized crime group, which was organized to transfer illegal migrants from the Republic of Serbia to BiH and further to EU countries, they committed a crime of organizing a group of people or associations to commit the crime of ‘smuggling migrants’.
This is an investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH against persons suspected of organizing the smuggling of a large number of illegal migrants from Serbia, across the water border on the Drina River into BiH, in cooperation with persons from Serbia, which significantly endangers the security and complicates the situation with illegal migrants in BiH.
Work within the operation "Kayak" continues, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH announced.
